Frederick Visby painted beautiful portraits and landscapes of the Danish West Indies.

He was born in Tikob, Denmark in the summer of 1839 and studied at the Copenhagen Academy of Art.

In 1867, the newspapers carried the announcements of his services to the public, both artistic and practical at moderate prices.

He specialized in drawings and oil paintings, signboards, and all sorts of decorative work as well as repairs to old paintings and portraits.

In this image, Visby captured the rural life of a modest resident living in St. Thomas in the late nineteenth century.

You can see a glimpse into their daily life as the home's occupant repairs his fishing net, his wife attends to chores and the animals run around at play in their front yard.

It's beautiful.
