⚓️ THE CREQUE MARINE RAILWAY ⚓️
The Creque Marine Railway on Hassel Island is one of the most important maritime locations in the US Virgin Islands.
Built in 1844 to service the hundreds of ships that entered the port for repair, it remained in operation for over one hundred years.
⚓️ HENRY O. CREQUE ⚓️
When it fell into disrepair around the turn of the century, an Anegadian native named Henry O. Creque purchased the property at auction.
He dedicated his life to repairing and operating the facility making it one of the most successful in all the West Indies.
By the late 1970s, when business took a downturn, his descendants sold the property to the Federal Government.
Today, its managed as a historic site under the Virgin Islands National Park.
