🇻🇮 US VIRGIN ISLANDS FLAG  🇻🇮
The US Virgin Islands National flag graces the cover of this historical notebook.
The idea for the flag originated with the Governor, Rear Admiral, Sumner Ely Kittelle in 1921.
He asked the Captain of the USS Grebe for assistance and through his efforts, US Naval officer, Percival Wilson Sparks began sketching a design.
Mr. Sparks, who was married to Grace Joseph-Sparks, a Virgin Islander, asked her and her sister, Blanche to embroider and sew his design. Â
He specifically designed the eagle to face the olive branches, which represented peace rather than facing the arrows.
