This special journal was created to honor the September commemoration when the coaling women's contributions are recognized annually in the US Virgin Islands.
It's perfect for school notes, journaling, shopping lists or as a travel diary and would make the great gift or keepsake!
Women in the islands have supported their families since the beginning of time with incredible sacrifices.
Under the Danish flag, they earned a small stipend as seamstresses, laundresses, market sellers, and straw weavers.
However, this enterprise exhausted their mental and physical strength above all others!
As ships from every nation stopped in St. Thomas to deliver or replenish their coal supplies, the manual labor needed for this task was chiefly supported by these native women.
They could unload a supply of coal at a rate of 1,000 tons in a day!
